Let’s explore Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture 2025 – we welcome guests from all over Europe

When? May 28th – June 1st 2025

Where? Chemnitz, Germany

Who? Blind people of all ages and nationalities

If you think about Germany, you probably think of Berlin or Munich, but Chemnitz? It’s not really well known, but we’re going to be the cultural Capital of Europe in 2025 and we have a lot to show. Our industrial city has an eventful history, interesting traces of different time periods and last but not least – it’s a center of blind life in the Eastern part of Germany.

For this occasion we want to invite blind people from all over Europe to spend a long weekend with us.

What’s special?

–      The organizing team are blind people who live in Chemnitz. We want to show you our city.

–      You can stay in a blind host family, so you have your personal guide from the arrival to departure. You really don’t need to bring a sighted person.

The highlight of the program will be a concert of visually impaired musicians from Chemnitz and Poland on Saturday evening, the annual Low Vision Charts concert.

If you

–      want to travel on your own

–      are interested in meeting locals and exchanging ideas

–      speak basic German or English

–      have basic mobility skills to be guided by another blind person

This might be the right place for you.

We offer accommodation in host families, breakfast  and dinner. You have to take care of your travel expenses, hotel accommodation with breakfast if you prefer and extra food if you get hungry.

Planned activities

You can arrive on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

The program includes

–      Sound and touch city tour

–      Visit to the museum of archaeology

–      Visit of our blind school and training centre

–      Small hike in the nearby forest

–      Climbing or tandem biking

–      Games, including showdown

–      The concert organized by the Low Vision Charts
